Q&A with Allison: Secrets Behind the Scenes of Wedding Magic

Q: What inspired you to become a wedding planner?
A: I’ve always loved weddings (really love, love) and I also love planning my own parties, so I was inspired to do a mix of both and really be a part of someones special day! 

Q: Can you walk us through a typical day as a wedding planner?
A: After getting to the venue an hour before a rental begins, I review the clients file once more before the day begins and print of all the documents needed. After, I make sure to prep the ready rooms for our clients to arrive then begin on Ceremony floor. Once ceremony floor is complete I start working on the tables on the reception floor! During the day, I make sure to check in with clients periodically once ceremony is thirty minutes away, I do last-minute checks of the space, and then give the wedding parties a thirty-minute warning and get the show going! 

Q: What makes Kansas City such a great city for weddings?
A: Kansas City has so much to offer! We have THE BEST NFL team, we have baseball, as well as other activities guests can enjoy when visiting from out of town! I also believe that because KC is in general, a small city, you’re getting more bang for your buck! The skyline is so stunning and the price to see it is so minimal! We also have amazing cocktail bars with great photo back drops!

Q: What is your favorite wedding you’ve ever planned at UNION?
A: My favorite wedding was actually one last May! I LOVED how much detail went into all of the floral decor and the bride really wanted to feel like a princess! We had floral installments from ceiling to floor, and it was so extravagant! 

Q: What element of an event gets you most excited?
A: I love working with clients on their design, from the table scape to deciding how to incorporate their love story into their big day! I love giving them DIY/Budget friendly ideas for the decor they’re wanting to have! 

Q: Do you have any advice for couples planning their wedding in 2025/2026?
A: Take it slow! It’s definitely a marathon, [not a sprint]! Excitement can be thrilling as well as overwhelming — just make sure to enjoy the small things and not worry about the big things! You’re going to marry the love of your life! Always remember — “your guests don’t know what they don’t know,” meaning, if something goes wrong, don’t stress! It’s Murphy’s Law and your guests will enjoy your day with you no matter what.. because they don’t know!
